Troubleshooting Guide: Google Merchant Center Feed Not Updating Automatically

If your item data are not updating in Google Merchant Center (GMC), there are three common reasons behind this issue:

Possible Causes

  1. Feed not updating
The feed on your site is not being updated automatically or manually, so the new prices are not reflected.
  2. Feed not being fetched by GMC
The feed updates on schedule, but GMC is not fetching it.
  3. Feed caching issue
The feed updates, but a caching tool (plugin or server-level caching) is serving an older version of the feed to GMC.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Instructions

1. Check the feed directly

  • Open the feed URL in a private/incognito window.
  • Search for the product by Item ID and verify if the price is updated.

2. Regenerate the feed manually

  • If the price is not updated in the feed:
    • Go to Manage Feed in your plugin.
    • Regenerate the feed manually.
  • Reopen the feed in a private window and check if the price has changed.

3. Identify caching issues

  • If the feed still shows the old price:
    • Create a brand-new feed and check if the new feed shows the correct price.
    • If yes, then the old feed is being cached.

4. Exclude feed from caching tools

  • Exclude the plugin feed directory from any caching tool you are using.
  • Clear/purge the cache.
  • Regenerate the feed again.

5. Re-fetch feed in GMC

  • Once the feed is updated correctly:
    • Log in to your Google Merchant Center account.
    • Go to Feeds > Select the feed > Fetch Now.
    • Wait for the new feed to be processed.
