How to Create WooCommerce Bundle Discounts (Easy Steps)
Do you know personalized product recommendations can increase your WooCommerce revenue by up to 300%, increase conversions by 150%, and boost your AOV (average order value) by 50%?
People who shop online have this tendency to buy relevant products along with their primary purchases. That’s why cross-selling accounts for up to 30% of total online sales. The eCommerce behemoth Amazon earns 35% of its revenue through product recommendations.
Want an even more effective selling strategy?
Combine relevant products and offer discounts when shoppers buy them together. This strategy can significantly boost your sales by enticing customers to buy more.
💡 In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to create and offer WooCommerce bundle discounts to help you maximize your revenue.
Without further ado, let’s get started.
What is WooCommerce Bundle Discount?
In WooCommerce bundle discounts, you group some products and offer special discounts when purchased together.
For example, a bundle might include a laptop, a laptop bag, and a mouse.
The total price of the bundled items is lower than the sum of their prices. These discounts are created to encourage customers to add more items to their carts.
A bundle typically includes relevant products that customers may require and the items they want to purchase. This discount incentivizes customers to buy the bundle rather than selecting each item separately.

How Do I Add A Bundle Discount In WooCommerce?
Plugins are the ultimate solution for adding WooCommerce bundle discounts because built-in tools don’t directly facilitate product bundle bulk discounts. However, there’s a workaround you can try if you don’t want to add another plugin to your WordPress setup.
You can create a Group product and a coupon to offer WooCommerce product bundles discounts. We must mention this method doesn’t truly serve the purpose of bundle discounts.
Let us walk you through the steps.
Creating Bundle Discounts Using Built-in Tools
First thing you will need is a group product.
Step 1. To create a new Grouped Product in WooCommerce:
- Go to your WordPress dashboard.
- Navigate to Products > Add New.
- Enter the product name (e.g., “Hoodie Bundle”).
- Scroll down to the Product Data section and select Grouped Product from the dropdown menu.
- Save this product as a draft.
Step 2. Link Regular/Simple Products to the Group:
- Create individual simple products if you haven’t already.
- Go to the Grouped product and then Product Data >> Linked Products.
- From the Grouped Products box, search and start adding your products. We linked 3 products in this Grouped Product.
- In addition, we will add this line to the product description: Buy all three items together and save 15%. Use code BUNDLE15 at checkout!
- Publish the Grouped product.
Step 3. Creating Bundle Discount WooCommerce Coupon
- Go to Marketing >> Coupons and add a new coupon.
- Let’s say we want to offer 15% discount on the product bundle. Configure the initials as you can see below.
- Go to the Usage restriction tab, and from the Products fields, select the products again.
- Set limits for the coupon from the Usage Limits tab.
Availing the WooCommerce bundle discounts
Let’s check whether our bundle discount trick is working or not. Go to your storefront and find the newly created Grouped product.
Let’s add one item each and add them to the cart.
From the Cart page, click the add coupon link and enter your coupon code.
After you apply the coupon, your cart will deduct 15% from the subtotal, as can be seen below.
As we have mentioned before, this method is just a workaround and not a true solution when it comes to offering WooCommerce bundle discounts. You need a discount plugin to achieve that.
Creating WooCommerce Bundle Discounts with a Plugin
While grouped products offer a basic way to showcase bundles, they cannot directly discount the entire collection. This is where plugins come in!
Popular plugins like Discount Rules for WooCommerce offer more control and flexibility when creating bundle discounts in WooCommerce. We will use this plugin to demonstrate how you can generate WooCommerce bundle discounts.
Let’s begin by installing the plugin. You will need the pro version to create bundle discounts.
After installing the plugin, go to WooCommerce >> Discount Rules and click the Add New Rule button.
From this window, you can create a wide range of conditional discounts for WooCommerce. Most importantly, there’s a dedicated discount type for WooCommerce bundle discounts.
Let’s create some WooCommerce bundle discounts for some of the common scenarios or best practices.
WooCommerce Grouped Product Discount
Remember what we mentioned about product bundle discounts? Buy X quantity of the same or different products for Y amount.
Let’s say you want to offer WooCommerce bundle discounts on all items when they are bought in groups. For example, you want to set a fixed $20 price when someone buys 3 items together.
This means that if customers buy three items together, they will get all three for a total of $20, regardless of their individual prices. Here’s how you create the rule with the plugin.
Select Bundle (Set) Discount from the Discount type dropdown.
After that, select the products or keep it to default All Products.
On the Discount tab, set the quantity of your item, the discount value, and the type.
Before proceeding to the front page, we need to explain what the recursive box does.
Based on the checkbox, there are two bundle discounts: recursive and non-recursive.
In a recursive bundle discount, the discount applies repeatedly as the quantity increases. For example, if you offer “buy 3 for $20,” customers can buy 6 for $40, 9 for $60, and so on. The discount pattern continues endlessly for every additional set of three items.
On the other hand, a non-recursive bundle discount does not repeat the discount beyond the initial set. For instance, with a “buy 3 for $10” non-recursive discount, the customer only gets the discount for the first three items. The discount does not apply to the additional items if they buy six or more.
We added 3 product quantities, and here’s what the Cart total displays.
Let’s remove the Recursive checkmark and add a fixed discount for another quantity.
Let’s say we want to offer 9 items at $40.
Adding 9 items to the cart will return this result –
Clothing WooCommerce Bundle Discounts
Let’s recreate the Hoodie bundle scenario with the plugin. After you select the bundle option from the discount type, jump to the Filters tab.
You can create WooCommerce bundle discounts based on specific products, SKUs, categories, attributes, etc. We will select the Category option.
Search and select your category.
After that, set your recursive or non-recursive discount rules. We wanted to offer a 15% discount on 3 items.
To achieve that, set item quantity and value, and from the discount type field, select the percentage option.
Now, if you add any 3 hoodies in the front end, the system will automatically apply a 15% discount on the cart subtotal.
Adding Different Conditions To The WooCommerce Bundle Discounts
The Rules tab allows you to apply a vast array of conditions to your WooCommerce bundle discounts.
You can apply conditions to your WooCommerce bundle discounts such as discounts based on subtotal, weight of products, payment method, date & time, customer’s purchase history or user role, etc.
This flexibility allows you to create targeted discounts that cater to different customer segments and purchasing behaviors. This will help boost sales and customer satisfaction.
Let us show you some examples of the use of conditions in bundle discounts. Continuing the previous Hoodie bundle example, let’s say you want to offer a 15% discount only when the cart subtotal is $100 or more.
After you set the discount values, go to the Rules tab and select Subtotal from the Condition Type dropdown.
Input the cart subtotal conditional value and save the rule.
Now, if your original cart subtotal is below $100, the discount rule will not be applied.
If you want to offer this discount to only first time buyers, select the First Order condition.
In case you want to reward your valued customers with WooCommerce bundle discounts, you can set the Total Spent condition and select the minimum spend amount.
You can also apply multiple conditions to the discount rule as per your requirements.
For more examples of conditional discounts, could you take a look at our previous article?
Product Combination WooCommerce Bundle Discounts
Most of the WooCommerce bundle discounts examples we mentioned earlier in the article were combination discounts.
Let’s say you want to offer a 20% discount when someone buys a cap, belt, and T-shirt. After selecting the bundle discount option, you need to select the specific products to which this discount applies.
Set your discount value for the 3 items.
From the Condition Type dropdown, select Product Combination.
Select the combination type and select the products again. Save your settings when done.
Check it from the front end to see whether your conditions are working or not.
As you can see, WooCommerce bundle discounts are applied for the set product combinations.
Benefits of WooCommerce Bundle Discounts
WooCommerce bundle discounts are a powerful marketing strategy that can significantly boost your online store’s sales and customer satisfaction. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the benefits for both you and your customers:
Increased Average Order Value (AOV)
This is the big one. By offering a discount on a bundle, you incentivize customers to purchase multiple items at once. This leads to a higher average order value, meaning more revenue per transaction for your store.
Improved Customer Satisfaction
Customers perceive bundles as a good deal as they are getting more value for their money. This can lead to increased satisfaction with your store and a higher chance of repeat business.
Inventory Management
Bundle discounts can be a great way to clear out slow-moving inventory. Pair those less popular items with your bestsellers in a bundle, and watch them move off the shelves!
Upselling and Cross-Selling
Bundles can introduce customers to new products they might not have considered otherwise. For example, a coffee maker bundle might include a bag of coffee beans, encouraging them to try a new flavor.
Enhanced Product Presentation
Bundles showcase complementary products and create a more cohesive shopping experience for customers. It helps them visualize how different items can be used together.
Marketing and Promotions
Bundles can be used for targeted promotions and seasonal campaigns. Create a special “Father’s Day Grill Master Bundle” or a “Winter Skincare Essentials Kit” to attract customers looking for specific gift ideas.
Additional benefits
- Reduced advertising costs: By increasing sales through bundled products, you may spend less on acquiring new customers as existing ones return for the value bundles offer.
- Improved customer engagement: Bundles can spark customer interest and encourage them to browse your store for other complementary items.
Wrap up
WooCommerce bundle discounts are a versatile tool that can help you achieve multiple goals: boost sales, improve customer satisfaction, and manage inventory effectively. By implementing these strategies, you can create a win-win situation for your store and your customers.
We hope this article will guide you in generating effective bundle discounts for your WooCommerce store and help your business grow.
