What are dynamic pricing and discounts?

Before we talk about dynamic pricing, let’s quickly review the default coupon system of WooCommerce. You can enable coupons from WooCommerce>>Settings>>General.

After you enable it, you will see a dedicated coupon section under the Marketing menu. From here, you can create a series of coupons.

adding coupons

Here are the different coupon types –

  • Percentage discount
  • Fixed cart discount
  • Fixed product discount
  • Signup fee discount
  • Signup fee percentage discount
  • Recurring product discount
  • Free shipping

However, you will need to create these coupons and assign products manually, or you can apply very few conditions. All of these coupons will have a coupon code assigned to each of these coupon offers.

Then you need to promote those codes to your audience through different platforms. Also, your customers must use those codes to enjoy the discounts. If in case they enter the wrong code, they can’t redeem the offer.

The whole process is manual for both you and your customers. This is where dynamic pricing and discounts for WooCommerce can automate the whole process and make your life easy.

So, what are dynamic pricing and discounts exactly?

Dynamic pricing and discounts is a pricing strategies where the price of a product is not fixed and can change based on various factors such as time, quantity, customer behavior, and market demand. This allows retailers to offer personalized pricing to different customers and target specific segments of their audience with relevant offers.

Dynamic pricing and discounts can take many forms, such as volume discounts, time-based discounts, location-based pricing, and personalized pricing.

For example, a retailer might offer a discount for purchasing a larger quantity of a product or a time-based discount for a limited time period. Personalized pricing might involve offering different prices to different customers based on their past purchase behavior or demographics.

Dynamic pricing and discounts can help retailers increase sales, improve customer loyalty, and optimize pricing strategies based on market demand and competition. To implement dynamic pricing and discounts in their eCommerce stores, retailers can use plugins that integrate with their eCommerce platforms, such as WooCommerce.

These plugins allow retailers to create dynamic discount product feeds and automate their pricing strategies based on predefined rules and triggers.

When to offer WooCommerce dynamic pricing and discount rules

Here are some specific scenarios where businesses can offer WooCommerce dynamic pricing:

Seasonal discounts

Offering dynamic pricing during peak seasons, such as holiday shopping, can be a great way to encourage more purchases.

For example, a store could offer discounts on certain items during the holiday season or special deals on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. This type of dynamic pricing can help businesses attract more customers during high-demand periods and boost overall sales.

Bulk discounts

Offering discounts on bulk orders can be an effective way to encourage customers to buy more products.

For example, a store could offer a 10% discount on orders of 5 items or more. This type of dynamic pricing can be especially effective for businesses that sell products in large quantities, such as wholesalers or manufacturers.

Loyalty discounts

Businesses can offer discounts to repeat customers as a way to encourage customer loyalty.

For example, a store could offer a 10% discount to customers who have made more than 5 purchases in the past. This type of dynamic pricing can be a great way to retain customers and encourage them to make more purchases in the future.

Time-based discounts

Offering discounts for a limited time can create a sense of urgency and encourage customers to buy.

For example, a store could offer a 20% discount on a product for the first 100 customers who purchase it. This type of dynamic pricing can be effective for businesses that want to generate quick sales and clear out inventory.

Cart-based discounts

Offering discounts based on the total value of a customer’s cart can be an effective way to increase the average order value.

For example, a store could offer a 5% discount on orders over $50 or a 10% discount on orders over $100. This type of dynamic pricing can encourage customers to buy more products in order to reach the discount threshold.

Customer behavior

One of the most important factors to consider when deciding whether to offer dynamic pricing and discounts is your customers’ behavior. For instance, if you notice that your customers add many items to their cart but abandon them during the checkout process, offering discounts is an effective way to entice them to complete their purchases.

Product type

The type of products you sell can also influence when to offer dynamic pricing and discounts. For example, if you sell products with high competition or low demand, offering discounts may be a good way to stand out from your competitors and encourage sales.

Cart abandonment

We have already mentioned this. But again, if you notice that customers tend to add items to their cart but abandon them. You can offer discounts or free shipping to encourage them to complete their purchases.

Competitor pricing

Finally, monitoring your competitors’ pricing can also influence when to offer dynamic pricing and discounts. If you notice that your competitors are offering discounts or running sales, it may be a good time to offer similar deals to stay competitive.

Overall, the decision to offer WooCommerce dynamic pricing will depend on the specific needs and goals of the business.
